Sailink, sail crossings from Dover to Boulogne-sur-Mer, £170 return. I think novelty fun trip on a sailboat, rather than an actual practical ferry however

Today's lunch video is "Wrapper Classes: A Layout Foundation" - "I have a blue background that is stuck because all of my content is in my `<main>` element, which has a width on it. I want my blue background to escape outside, so let's make that happen." #CSS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tr7EH48TFiE

If you have dozens (or more!) third-party scripts on a page, it can be tricky to find the source of your #webperf pain. This guide covers how to:
👉 Audit the scripts on your pages
👉 Understand third-party performance metrics
👉 Prevent regressions
👉 Make your third-party providers accountable

@tripleman here is an #11ty workshop I teach at school. Maybe it can help giving you a bit of a headstart. Since you know your way around HTML / CSS it should be relatively straightforward.

Microsoft is introducing ads into a free version of Office, which seemingly only lets users save to OneDrive.
In other news, LibreOffice is also free, doesn't have ads, and lets you save your documents wherever you want. I use it every day for my work. It is available here:

I think every designer should write a love letter to a font at least once in their lifetime.
This is mine: A 150-year-old font you have likely never heard of, and one you probably saw earlier today.

@zacwest For any readers who go "huh": It is possible to download all your Amazon ebooks, remove their DRM with DeDRM, make some backups and, if desired, delete your Amazon account. Well, until February 26th it is possible, so do it now before they are lost forever.

If you've recently converted a #WordPress site to static HTML, which plugin / service did you use?
(Looking for *actual* experience. I know how to use a search engine. Don't be a reply-guy, kthxbai.)
EDIT: Went with https://simplystatic.com/ which was free and made an easy ZIP file for uploading elsewhere.

We know how LLMs work.
We know how to influence their responses.
We know how to do this kind of PR.
What gives?

update: thanks to @juniper for tracking down this exceptional resource for getting your old mac back on the road. most importantly, has a nice local proxy to get you TLS 1.3 ("Legacy Mac Proxy")
https://jonathanalland.com/old-osx-projects.html
if you’ve got an old mac that has to remain on an older version of Mac OS X, you’ve probably noticed that all of its SSL based internet connections fail.
it’s due to expired root certificates, which you can update for free here:

just put this 10 year old macbook air back to work as my couch coding machine. it is blazingly fast running 10.9.x (Mavericks) with only 4GB ram and a 1.4ghz i5. for VS Code work it is about as perfect as I could ask for

Currently #Deno-only, with Node.js & Bun support planned. Built on the robust @fedify foundation.

Cdramaland's weirdest urban fantasy/superhero/wuxia/xuanhuan drama is back! #Cdramas rarely get a second season, so the fact that #IAmNobody got a second season says a lot!
What makes this drama stand out is the zany, "wtf is going on" off kilter humor which somehow is able to balance out the angst. Also, the killer soundtrack.

Finished up “Bodkin”. Considerably better than average, I’d say. It’s a tough script because the lead character is extremely un-likable, but they pull it off. Some fairly sick humor. Recommended.

A hill I’ll die on every time: NAT is a security feature. It wasn’t intended as one, it shouldn’t be used as one, but it IS one. If I go into my router and disable the firewall, then do the same on every device I own, not a single extra device on my network becomes publicly exposed. That is security. It makes it hard for users with poor cybersecurity awareness to accidentally expose devices to the entire internet. If we disabled uPNP by default, we’d see a huge drop in automated exploitation.
